The Muslim’s Holy Month of Ramadan for this year began on 16 May 2018, and the Muslims community of SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah embarked upon a month-long spiritual journey of fasting, offering prayers, self-reflection and charity work from 17 May till 15 June 2018 (upon the sighting of the moon).

Madrasah Jamiatul Fathi and Al-Mughni Orphanage Management Association of SIDMA College, under the patronage of Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (SIDMA College Chairman and Founder) together with Madam Azizah Khalid Merican (CEO), lined up a host of religious and social corporate obligations and commitment to be implemented at the campus throughout this religious month; with the main aim of getting SIDMA community to come together, mingle and pray in this holy month of Ramadan.

According to Madam Noradilah Binti Mohamaddia, Secretariat of SIDMA Ihya Ramadan Committee, among the SIDMA annual religious programmes for Ramadan are the Tadarus Al-Quran and Nuzul Al-Quran. These activities will be held daily from 9.00 am onwards at Madrasah Jamiatul Fathi and will be led by Ustazah Rohaya Binti Roslan; opened for SIDMA staff and students as well for residents nearby (subject to request, and approval by the committee).

SIDMA Staff Welfare Association (PKKKSS) Fifth Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held at West 1, SIDMA College on 16 May 2018. The event was participated by 45 active members of SIDMA College staff (including staff from SIDMA subsidiaries companies) as well as the 2016-2017 Central Committee Members.

In line with the legal requirements to provide opportunities for all SIDMA staff to gather at least one a year to engage directly with the Central Committee by raising, exchanging views and solving issues regarding their personal welfare, the association and the college; PKKKSS practices having the Annual General Meeting yearly, but the election of new Central Committee Members will only be held once in two years.

Earlier, Mr Zain Azrai Bin Mohd Noor, Chairman of PKKKSS, announced that as the current Central Committee which was elected in March 2016, has expired, thus it was time for the dissolution of the 2016-2017 Central Committee to give way for the election of the 2018-2019 Central Committee.

Prior to the dissolution of the committee, Mr Zain Azrai thanked Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Chairman and Founder of SIDMA College) and family for their generosity and caring attitudes towards the staffs welfare and happiness, particularly during both their happy and sad times. He added that as staff of the college, we are indeed very fortunate and blessed to have Dr Morni as our just and caring boss. He takes into account the staff’s welfare as one of his many priorities, and as one of his family members.

Keepers of the Rulers’ Seal, Datuk Seri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad on the 15th May 2018 announced that the date for the beginning of Ramadan in 2018 had been set on 17 May (Thursday); in accordance with a decree by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, after acquiring the consent of the Rulers of Malaysia.

During the holy month of Ramadan, SIDMA College staff together with Muslims around the world alter their daily routines and unite in fasting from dawn till dusk. Thus for the next 30 days, Muslims will refrain from eating or drinking for 13-14 hours each day, and will focus on praying abundantly as well as to perform a lot of charity work.

In conjunction with this holy month, Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (SIDMA Chairman and Founder) wished all Muslims of the college a Happy Fasting month by symbolically presented dates (kurma) to all his staff. The simple but meaningful event was held at SIDMA College’s Front Office on 16 May 2018.
