SIDMA College Sabah collaborated with Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai and participated in the programmes to commemorate the United States of America (US) Independence Day on 4th July 2018; which also marked our 150th years of peace, prosperity and partnership that the people of Sabah have enjoyed with the US.

The programme held on 28 June 2018 with Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu (DBKK) was basically art and environmental activities participated by the U.S. Embassy counsellor for public affairs, Bradly Hurst and staff from US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur; Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Y.B Madam Christina Liew; Y.B Chan Foong Hin (MP Kota Kinabalu) as well as Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai and staff from DBKK, were primarily focused around  group bike ride and street clean-up for environmental conservation; as well as the planting of a total of 100 trees from Gleneagles Hospital Kota Kinabalu to the City seaside walkway - as a symbolic gesture of the diplomatic ties between Sabah and the US government.

Hari Raya literally means celebration day; and Hari Raya Aidilfitri is the day that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of the dawn-to-dusk fasting. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is considered one of the most important celebrations for the Muslims. Also known as “Eid Al Fitr”, it’s a time for family togetherness and celebration, with everyone enjoying themselves after the austerity of Ramadan; and the start of a new month on the Islamic calendar, Syawal. Hence, in conjunction with this auspicious festive occasion, SIDMA College’s Human Resource department with the collaboration of staff from the Yellow Team, led by Mr Bonaventure Wences, organised the SIDMA College Staff Gathering cum Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2018 Celebration on 29 June 2018 at SIDMA College Atrium.

Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (SIDMA College Founder and Chairman), Madam Azlina Ngatimin (Director, Corporate Relations and Business Development), Madam Azizah Khalid Merican (CEO), Managers, Heads of Departments, lecturers, staff and students were invited to the event. SIDMA Atrium was decorated with “ketupat”, and Malaysian Hari Raya music echoed around SIDMA Building. The whole college came together for a celebration assembly by wearing colourful attire, in-line with the team of the day “Warna-warni Aidilfitri

SIDMA College Sabah collaborated with Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) Sabah and conducted a Road Safety Advocacy talk at SIDMA College Sabah Atrium on 12 June 2018. The event which was coordinated by Mohd Fikri, President of SIDMA’s Student Representative Council (MPM) and his team of  MPM members, was aimed to instil road safety awareness among the students of the college, particularly to the Semester June 2018 newly registered students. It was also held in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Festival which falls on 15 June 2018, as students will travel to their respective hometowns to celebrate the occasion with their family and friends.

Miss Nur Hajma from JPJ during her talk emphasised that during festivities, such as the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, there will be more vehicles on the roads, and the likelihood of accidents to occur is also very great. Thus she reminded students, and the general public to travel safely in order to reach their destinations safely; as festival are when families look forward to being with their loved ones and together, celebrate the happy occasion.
