Prof Dr Morni Hj Kambrie, Chairman and Founder of SIDMA College Sabah, currently in collaboration with Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) and UNITAR International University to conduct accredited and affordable degree courses, particularly Bachelor of Education (Hons), Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Hons) and Diploma Early Childhood Education and more; welcomed and applaud reports that a large number of graduates from SIDMA College UNIRAZAK and UNITAR Sabah have been appointed as Interim teachers by the Sabah Education Director, Dr Mistrine Radin.
During the recent exercise by Sabah Education Director to address the shortage of teachers in Sabah in 2019, the department have appointed more than 750 education graduates with the required criteria such as knowledge, skills and attitude, as interim teachers upon passing their Teacher Candidate Qualification Test or Ujian Kelayakan Calon Guru (UKCG) and the interview conducted.
This was in line with the implementation of the 90:10 policy which was announced by the Ministry of Education in 2015. During these exercise, Dr Mistrine announced that the department’s policy to have 90% local teachers and 10% teachers from other states is almost achieved. Teachers from other states upon their return to their hometown will be replaced by local with the necessary qualification.
Prof Dr Morni was indeed honoured that a large portion of those newly appointed Interim teachers are education graduates from SIDMA College UNIRAZAK and UNITAR Sabah. He felt thankful that most of these graduates were appointed as teachers to serve in Sabah, and he hope that it will be a strong motivational factor to encourage our students in schools to strive harder during their studies, and later be teachers to serve their own local Malaysian community.
He too thanked the Ministry of Education (MOE), particularly, Dr Mistrine Radin, Sabah Education Director, Sabah Education officers, District Education Officers, Principals and Headmasters for giving these local graduates the opportunities to become a teacher and serve in their “community”. He thanked them in advance for their mentoring and scaffolding towards the professional development strategies and providing continuous guidance to these Interim teachers.
Meanwhile, Dr Morni also took the opportunities to advise these Interim teachers to view themselves as a team member in their new environment, be partners and be able to share mutual goals and work continuously to achieve their organizational goal. They need to blend themselves into their new institution, work and grow professionally together as a team for the greater benefits of their students.
